Uma Thurman revealed the 'darkest secret' from her youth: 'That decision made it possible for me to have what I have today'
She also voiced her concern for Texas women and children over the anti-abortion law
Famous actress Uma Thurman revealed that she had an abortion when she was a teenager and called it her “darkest secret”. The news came after the U.S. Supreme Court refused to block an abortion ban after the sixth week of pregnancy in Texas, thus infringing abortion rights and leaving in effect Texas law that prohibits most abortions.
"This law is yet another discriminatory tool against those who are economically disadvantaged, and often, indeed, against their partners. Women and children of wealthy families retain all the choices in the world and face little risk," Uma remarked.
"I am grief-stricken, as well, that the law pits citizen against citizen, creating new vigilantes who will prey on these disadvantaged women, denying them the choice not to have children they are not equipped to care for, or extinguishing their hopes for the future family they might choose,” the actress said.
She also noted that her decision from her youth, which she made because she did not feel able to provide a stable home for a child, allowed her to have children when she was ready for it and when she was able to do it properly.
"It has been my darkest secret so far," she admitted, adding: "I am 51 years old and I share this with you from the house where I raised my three children, which are my pride and joy."
"To all of you - the women and girls of Texas, who are afraid of being persecuted and traumatized by predatory bounty hunters; to all the women who are outraged that the rights to our bodies have been taken over by the state; and to all of you who have become vulnerable and ashamed because you have a uterus, I say. I see you. Have courage. You are beautiful. You remind me of my daughters," Uma Thurman concluded.
