THE LARGEST SPACESHIP IN THE WORLD: The Chinese beast will be one kilometer long and will run on solar power
China has officially started the project of building the largest spaceship that will be assembled outside the Earth.
The National Science Foundation of China has given researchers five years to study the assembly of a huge spaceship.
The scientists were told to work according to the protocol of extreme urgency on this project.
Preliminary research includes challenges of development and production, ie. light spacecraft construction with the option of in-orbit assembly and control from space.
The project will also develop practical applications for potential megaprojects, including huge space solar power plants. These stations will collect solar energy and transmit energy to Earth via microwaves.
The kilometer-long and so far largest spaceship China describes as exceptional space equipment necessary for future space exploration, the discovery of the mysteries of the universe, and the long-term settlement of planets outside the Earth. The research will focus on reducing the weight of the spacecraft, and over 10 studies have already begun during the month, which include scientists in the fields of mathematics, physics, and chemistry.
While this project is underway, the Chinese Academy of Space Technology (CAST) will work on the development of solar panels for both terrestrial and space solar farms to collect huge amounts of solar energy on Earth and in space.
Currently, China is in the phase of construction of a three-module space station weighing 66 tons, which is being formed piece by piece through 11 missions, and it is planned to complete the works by the end of 2022.
