The Rust crew worked under a lot of pressure: They didn’t stick to safety, and this wasn’t the only gun incident

Hours before the accident on the film set when actor Alec Baldwin shot and killed camerawoman Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza, several camera crews left the set to protest working conditions.

The cameramen and their assistants were outraged by the working conditions on the low-budget film: they complained about the too-long hours they spent filming, the too-long trips to the set, as well as the salaries.

"The Rust set near Santa Fe did not strictly adhere to standard security protocols, including those on the handling of weapons," unofficial sources confirmed to the Los Angeles Times, adding that at least one cameraman complained to the production manager last weekend about the safety of weapons on the set. Also, three team members who were at Bonanza Creek Ranch on Saturday expressed concern over two accidental gun incidents, namely, Baldwin's stuntman fired two shots on Saturday, after being told the gun was cold, a term that is used for weapons that are not loaded, and even without fake bullets, two members of the film crew testified for the Los Angeles Times.

One of the members of the team from the set, who was very upset about everything, emphasized that a safety investigation should have been conducted because of everything, but it was not done. He also pointed out that there was no guarantee that the weapon accident would not happen again, adding that they worked on the set under pressure and that they were constantly rushed. An unnamed source also told the LA Times that he sent a message to the production manager in which he expressed concern about the accidental firings.

From the production, they replied that the safety of the team is their main priority and announced an internal investigation. They denied receiving official complaints about the safety of the film crew on set.

It was also announced on Friday night that Alec Baldwin was handed a gun on the eve of the terrible event, for which he received information that it met safety standards. According to the court file, the assistant director did not know that the gun was loaded with real bullets.

A fatal accident occurred on Thursday when Baldwin accidentally shot  Halyna Hutchins and injured Joel SouzaThe actor is devastated by the tragedy.

An investigation is underway and a decision on the indictment is pending.
