The secret of the cult series "The Thorn Birds"

Forbidden love between a priest and a young girl, masterfully played by Richard Chamberlain and Rachel Ward, conquered the entire planet back in 1983.

The mini-series "The Thorn Birds", based on the book of the same name, was the most popular series in the world.

Forbidden love between a priest and a young girl, played masterfully by Richard Chamberlain and Rachel Ward, won the whole world and numerous awards in 1983.

After this series, Rachel was declared the most beautiful woman in the world, and it is interesting that the actor Bryan Brown, who played her husband in "Birds" where she did not love him, actually fell in love with her in a real life and they are still married.

According to one legend, there is a bird that sings only once in its life, and that is more beautiful than any other creature on this earth. From the moment it leaves its nest, that bird searches for a thorny tree and has no peace until it finds it.

There it crawls among its wild intertwined branches and, singing, stabs its body on the longest and sharpest thorn. The moment a thorn penetrates her chest, the bird is unaware that it brings it death - it simply sings while it has the strength.

As it dies, its pain grows into a song far more beautiful than the song of all the nightingales and songs. The price of that beautiful song is life itself, but because of that - the whole world stops listening, and God smiles at that…. because the best that exists can only be obtained at the cost of great pain… or at least that's what legend says…

The author of the novel according to which the legendary series was created, Coleen Mccullough, had a brother Carl, who drowned off the coast of Crete at the age of 25, trying to save tourists from trouble.

Based on him, she later built a character in the novel "The Thorne Birds", and she wrote about him in her book of memoirs "Life without boring bits".

By the way, Coleen was an extraordinary writer of historical novels, she wrote as many as 18 books about the last days of the Roman Republic, from Gaius Maria to Octavian Augustus.
