The Tragic Life Story Of Gia Carangi
Gia Carangi was an American model, considered by many to be the first woman to be titled as supermodel. This is her tragic life story.
Gia Carangi was born on January 26, 1960, in Philadelphia. She often listened to her parents arguing. Her mother Kathleen left the family home and remarried when Gia was 11. That was very difficult for Gia. Soon after that, she left her father and brothers and went to live with her mother. She felt rejected and lonely, which was very hard for her at that age.
At the beginning of 1978, he moved to New York, where, thanks to Wilhelmina Cooper, a former model, and owner of the fashion agency "Wilhelmina Models", she became one of the best models in New York in a short time.
Her father was Italian and her mother Irish, so many fashion agents and designers considered her face and appearance exotic in a bunch of blonde models and mannequins.
She was on the covers of fashion magazines such as Cosmopolitan and Vogue. She spent a lot of time in "Studio 54", where she started doing drugs. Marijuana then cocaine, which was already present in New York’s fashion world. After Wilhelmina's death, whom Gia loved as a mother, in order to avoid pain and sorrow, Gia turned more and more to drugs. At Wilhelmina's funeral, she received a contract from Eileen Ford, which was terminated after three weeks due to Gia's drug addiction.
After the treatment, thanks to the photographer Francesco Scavullo, she found herself on the cover of Cosmopolitan magazine, but that did not help her get more engagements. In that last shooting, she kept her hand behind her gorgeous dress, in order to cover the traces of the needle. Her behavior changed and became unpredictable, even violent. She was late for shoots, where she would often fall asleep. When she was caught with drugs again, her career ended.
At the urging of her family, she goes to rehabilitation, and after leaving the hospital, she is raped. Doctors diagnosed her with pneumonia, but also AIDS. She soon died in hospital. No one from the fashion industry attended the funeral, and about her death was heard only a few weeks later.
There has been a lot of gossip about her sexuality, and her relationship with make-up artist Sandy Linter is well known. Wanting to be loved and understood, she often fell in love with people she barely knew. When she started a relationship with Sandy, it seemed to her that she had finally found happiness. Because of Gia's drug problems, but also because of the fear of ruining her career, Sandy left Gia.
The favorite model of Dior and Armani have several biographical books about herself, a documentary, but also a movie “Gia” with Angelina Jolie in the lead role.
