Victoria Beckham open about her struggles!
When she embarked on a major transformation of her image and career more than 10 years ago and began creating her own fashion brand, few took her seriously.
Victoria Beckham celebrated her 48th birthday today in the company of her family. When she embarked on a major transformation of her image and career more than 10 years ago and began creating her own fashion brand, few took her seriously. Back then, Posh Spice, as it was called at the time of the Spice Girls' greatest fame, was not the epitome of elegance, according to fashion experts.
Although during the first years of her singing career she always wore black and inconspicuous clothes to justify that nickname, after the breakup of the group she drastically changed her look and style. Her enlarged breasts, excess extensions, and fake complexion have become the subject of ridicule by British media. Victoria was then known to the public exclusively as the wife of David Beckham, but that title was simply not enough for her.
She wanted something more and better for herself, even though almost no one believed in her. ‘I had to find myself and my self-confidence at the time’, she admitted recently.
In the fall of 2008, after the successful launch of her fashion brand, she presented her first collection of dresses at New York Fashion Week. To the general surprise of many, her creations met with the approval of critics who praised the wearability of the presented dresses, cuts that flatter the female body, and a neutral color palette.
A change of image followed. She removed the implants and returned to elegant pieces of clothing. "Everything about me is natural except for the nails, a little help with the hairstyle, and a little fake complexion from Saint-Tropez. No more torpedo bazookas. They're gone", she joked in an interview with Vogue. With each new collection, she gained new admirers and in just ten years she became a respected designer.
Her success was rewarded with an important recognition in 2017 - Buckingham Palace awarded her the Royal Order of Contribution to Fashion and Humanitarian Work. It was a great moment for a woman who once upon a time was just a self-effacing girl with big dreams who didn’t fit into her company.
“I was ambitious, I respected professors and rules. After school, I went to dancing, singing, and acting classes. At the same time, the others were hiding around so they could smoke. They pretended to be cool, and I wasn’t like them. High school was hell. The children took everything out of the puddles on the roads and shot at me. I just stood there, alone. I had no friends. They pushed me, and said they would beat me.”
Victoria is real proof that talent is only a small part of success. Bigger and much more important is the effort we put in to achieve our goals. “I was never a natural talent for anything. In the end, I succeeded because I believed that you can achieve a lot if you work hard. Nothing ever came to me by itself. I’ve never been the smartest, the best at something. That is why we always tell our children that they must be valuable, believe in themselves, and then they will be able to become what they want.”
