Which famous Hollywood actress plays in the erotic film "Emmanuelle"?

Everyone is asking who will be Audrey Diwan’s new Emmanuelle. Well, she is one of the most popular actresses in French cinema. And she began to seduce foreigners as well. César-winning actress Noémie Merlant ( Portrait of the Girl on Fire, L'Innocent, Tàr ), will replace Léa Seydoux in the role of Emmanuelle, the famous heroine of the novel of the same name, in the highly anticipated remake of the film directed by Audrey Diwan.

The actress explained last April in her statement: " Since I hadn't watched any film telling the adventures of Emmanuelle, I hadn't integrated the fact that it was mythical. What I read, is a screenplay by Audrey Diwan and Rebecca Zlotowski. Then I discovered a female character that I love, as well as a story that revolves around connecting to one's desires. It's a very exciting journey since it tells how, as women, we reclaim our bodies and our fantasies. That speaks to me. Afterward, yes, there is a risk-taking, but that's how I choose my roles."

Published in 1959 (then in a more official version in 1967 prohibited for those under 18) under the pen name of Emmanuelle Arsan,  Emmanuelle is one of the most famous modern erotic novels in France. It tells the story of a young (married) 19-year-old woman who embarks on a series of sexual adventures with several men and women against the setting of life in Bangkok. Arousing a scandal upon its publication (because of its depiction of free love) but also an immediate fascination, the novel has been adapted numerous times, whether for the cinema or television in the 80s and 90s. And it is currently being remade.

On the production side, it is the Frenchwoman  Audrey Diwan who signs the new adaptation of this novel whose filming, which took place between Paris and Hong Kong, has just ended. In 2019, the ex-journalist directed "L'Événement", based on the work of Annie Ernaux, a shocking film that retraces the obstacle course of women who wanted to have an abortion before the legalization of abortion in 1975. It is once again a work written by a woman that she decided to bring to the screen, accompanied by the adaptation of the screenplay by French director  Rebecca Zlotowski.

Audrey Diwan, who was president of the jury at Cannes, explained: "The action will take place in Hong Kong and no longer in Thailand, this makes sense about our version of the story. I went there twice in six months for long periods. The writing is partly finished, although I continue to rework the text.”

Léa Seydoux (who was then still considered for the leading role in the feature film) declared that the project would not resemble other adaptations of Emmanuelle Arsan's book. She stated: “ It will be very different and it will have nothing to do with the  Emmanuelle films that were made in the past. It will be an Emmanuelle from 2023. There will be eroticism but it will be addressed at through a feminine prism and from her perspective .". British actress  Naomi Watts ( Mulholland Drive, King Kong ) as well as Will Sharpe ( The White Lotus ), Jamie Campbell Bower ( Stranger Things ), and Anthony Wong ( Infernal Affairs ) are part of the cast.
