The series "Sex and the City" lives and has numerous fans around the world even after 24 years since the release of the first episode. However, what few people knew is that this achievement is mostly autobiographical, that is, the character of the main heroine Carrie Bradshaw.
Namely, the author of the original series today is 65-year-old Candace Bushnell, who wrote the screenplay based on her life and the lives of her friends.
According to Bushnell, a columnist who wrote for the New York Observer but also enjoyed life in New York together with her three best friends and everything it has to offer, the character of Carrie Bradshaw was created. On one occasion, Bushnell spoke about how much she gave of herself in this series.
“People don't understand how much I am in that series, how much this woman from "Sex and the City" was a part of my life and something that I analyzed and defined and lived. It was much more than clothes and shoes. For me, it was a story about women who had careers and who could live without relying on a man and without children, who were able to be truly independent.”
Although she now lives near Hampton, Candice has spent decades of her life in New York. About that city, which defines this series, as well as its characters, the author said:
“New York is not a place where you come and find the love of your life. It is a place where you can come and find life, career, and friends who become your family” - said the writer and revealed that the only fictional character is Charlotte, as far as the main characters are concerned. She admitted that she and her friends would never hang out in real life with people like her.
“My friends and I didn't even know such women. Most of my friends were like Samantha. We were quite free” - she said earlier, while she remembered her favorite moments from the series.
“In those early episodes, the characters were a little more "badass", and such were the women in New York. We didn't try to fit in and be part of a society, we weren't good girls, we weren't honey and milk. It was a matter of women against society" - said the author of the legendary series and revealed how she managed to maintain a friendship with her three best friends for so many years.
“It's getting harder. I actually moved to Sag Harbor because my two best friends lived there. I always go on vacation with my girlfriends. It’s about real commitment to these friendships. When people get married and have children, it really changes the dynamics. But children grow up, people get divorced, they move and that reunites those friendships.”
