Will Smith after tasting ayahuasca: 'It's the best feeling I've ever had!'

'In my 50 or so years of living on this planet, this is by far the best feeling I have ever experienced,' said Hollywood actor Will Smith after tasting ayahuasca, writes the Telegraph.

Smith says he drank strong hallucinogenic tea as many as 14 times in Peru, causing him to ‘float deep into space’. He came to Peru to find a shaman to help him mend a broken marriage with his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

The actor, known for his roles in the films 'Men in Black', 'Independence Day' and many others, as well as the series 'Prince of Bel Air', said that after his divorce from his wife in 2011 he drank psychoactive ayahuasca deep in the jungle, which caused many vivid visions.

I was trillions of light-years away from Earth,’ Will said in a passage from his new memoir read by the New York Post. In his eight psychedelic experiences, he felt an ‘invisible woman’ whom he called a ‘mother’.

I’m sure she’ll never leave me,’ he wrote.

Smith has been married to actress Jada Pinkett Smith since 1997 and they have two children but are in an open relationship and both are seeing other people.

He embarked on an ayahuasca experiment after the couple briefly broke up after Jada’s 40th birthday.

Smith organized a lavish three-day birthday party that included a documentary about her family, pictures of her favorite artists, and a lavish dinner that ended with a performance by Mary J. Blige.

But Jada called the party ‘the most disgusting ego show I’ve ever seen in my life’ and told him to cancel the remaining plans for the weekend.

Smith says in his memoirs that he then told her, ‘I’m giving up. I'm giving up trying to make you happy. It's over - you go and be you, and I'm going to be me. '

The 53-year-old Smith subsequently traveled to South America for several ayahuasca rituals, although he had never even smoked marijuana or drunk much before.

This was my first little taste of freedom,’ he wrote of the experience. 'In my 50s or more on this planet, this is by far the best feeling I have ever experienced.'

Ayahuasca is a drink made from the leaf extract of the plant Psychotria Viridis and the stem of the plant Banisteriopsis caapi. The reddish-brown drink has a strong taste and aroma and has been used for centuries by people from Peru, Brazil, Colombia, and Ecuador for religious, ritual, and therapeutic purposes.

In recent years, Westerners seeking alternative therapy have been attracted to shamanic ceremonies that are very modern and on a certain social level in New York, California, and London.

According to the Alcohol and Drug Foundation, the active chemicals in ayahuasca can change a person’s thinking, sense of time, and emotions and also cause hallucinations. Swallowing the drink is often accompanied by immediate vomiting, followed by intense ‘trips’.

Smith also spoke recently about his relationship problems in interviews with Oprah Winfrey and GQ magazine.

After that ‘catastrophic’ birthday party, Smith spent 14 days alone in Utah before heading to Trinidad to relax, to Peru to find a shaman, and then to spend time with an intimate relationship counselor.

In his memoirs about a new vision of himself and the world, he wrote: ‘If I am so wonderful, I don’t need the most-watched movies to feel good. If I’m this wonderful, I don’t need hit albums to feel worthy of love. If I'm so wonderful, I don't need Jada or anyone else to confirm it to me. '

This open confession contradicts his thoughts in his younger years when he did everything precisely with the goal of becoming the biggest movie star in the world.

Smith has made a record eight films in a row that have grossed over $ 100 million at U.S. box offices, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Among them were ‘Bad Boys’, ‘Independence Day’ and ‘Hitch’.

In the upcoming film ‘King Richard’ he plays Richard Williams, the father of tennis stars Venus and Serena, which will be screened in Europe in November.

Smith and his wife Jada eventually reconciled, however, and bought a six-bedroom house worth $ 11.3 million in Hidden Hills, California.

Smith is currently trying to lose 20 lbs in 20 weeks in a YouTube series titled ‘Best Shape of my Life’.

In his memoirs, he also mentions a problematic relationship with his father, whom he says abused his mother. In one passage, Smith says he once considered pushing his abusive father down the stairs to get revenge on him.
