Will Smith is banned from attending the Oscars!
Will Smith will not be allowed to attend the Oscars for the next 10 years, because he slapped comedian Chris Rock on the stage during this year's ceremony.
Will Smith will not be allowed to attend the Oscars for the next 10 years, because he slapped comedian Chris Rock on the stage during this year's ceremony, the Academy of Film Arts and Sciences announced in a statement obtained by CNN.
'The Board definitely decided that for a period of 10 years, from 8 April 2022, Mr. Smith will not be allowed to attend any events or programs of the Academy, in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Oscars,' they said in a joint statement. The president of the Academy, David Rubin, and the executive director, Don Hudson, announced in a statement, CNN reports. The decision was made at a meeting of the Board of Governors that was earlier in the day in Los Angeles.
The meeting, originally scheduled for April 18, was accelerated after Smith announced his resignation from the Academy last week.
In the statement was added: '94. the Oscars should be a celebration of many individuals in our community because they did an amazing job last year. However, those moments were overshadowed by Mr. Smith's unacceptable and harmful behavior on stage.'In a statement, the academy also admitted that they did not adequately react to the incident during the TV broadcast of the ceremony, and therefore apologized to viewers around the world.
Recall, Will Smith slapped Chris Rock less than a week ago, and in that short time his life turned upside down – police was ready to arrest him, and he had to resign from the Academy and may still be stripped of his Oscar. According to the Hollywood media, Smith will lose a huge amount of money related to film and TV projects due to this incident. The actor won the Oscar for the film “King Richard”, the last one he “kicked out”, but he had big plans for this year, which now, apparently, will not be realized.
Will Smith apologized to Chris Rock after slapping him at the 2022 Oscars.
‘I would like to apologize to you publicly, Chris,’ Smith wrote in a statement. ‘I was out of control and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions did not indicate the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness. ‘
