A series about growing up in difficult conditions: "Boy Swallows Universe"

A new, modern series often captivate many people to the small screen, and the reason is very simple. Namely, stories about the main characters growing up and their transition from adolescence to adulthood are fascinating. Therefore, over the years we had the opportunity to enjoy numerous such series. And the new series that arrived on the famous streaming platform Netflix is no different.
The Australian series "Boy Swallows Universe" is based on the 2018 novel of the same name written by author Trent Dalton. This novel is adapted into seven episodes.
The action of series is set in the Australian city of Brisbane, and the main character is 12-year-old Eli Bell, who faces family problems that are not appropriate for a boy of his age.
Namely, Eli's mother, Frances, is a former drug addict, and his stepfather, Lyle, is a heroin dealer. There is also his deaf and mute brother Gus who communicates by trying to spell words with his fingers in the air. His life is further complicated when he meets his father and tries to protect his mother from vicious criminals. Although he lives in poverty and has an extremely difficult life story, Eli tries to remain optimistic and he tries to learn what it means to be a good person.
Given that the series has an interesting theme, it is not surprising that the main characters are played by talented Australian actors. So the role of young Eli went to Felix Cameron, and later his character was played by the actor Zac Burgess in his old age. Elio's mother Frances is played by 34-year-old actress Phoebe Tonkin. She was part of the series "Vampire Diaries" and "The Originals ". The role of Eli's father went to 54-year-old actor Simon Baker, who became famous with the role of Patrick Jane in the acclaimed series "The Mentalist".
With an interesting cast and an even more interesting life story, we believe that "Boy Swallows Universe" could become a real hit on the streaming platform.
