Violence against women and sex scandals - the horrible side of soccer
England is rocked by a scandal once more. Again, there is a new case of abuse of a woman by a soccer player. Crimes like this one happen too often on the Island.
Mason Greenwood is the next name in a series of players accused of violence against women. Police arrested Greenwood on charges of physically and sexually abusing his girlfriend. A charge of attempted murder was added later.
The young Manchester United player was released. He will remain free until the trial. This is a common practice even though the victims fear for their lives. The investigation is still in progress. He will not be able to train or play for the club, and sponsors have turned their backs on him.

This case of violence comes just several months after the serial sexual abuse scandal. Benjamin Mendy, a Manchester City player, was exposed.
In 2017, Mandy became the most expensive defender of all time. At that time City paid Monaco around 60,000,000 EUR for his transfer.
However, last year he was accused of seven counts of rape. He raped four women, and he also attacked a fifth woman, allegedly. He is now behind bars because of that. Until the end of the process, he will remain suspended at the club.

Welshman Ryan Giggs, one of the best players in the history of the Premier League, is awaiting trial for harassing his ex-girlfriend and her younger sister.

Kate Greville, 36, reported to police that she suffered psychological abuse and physical violence during her three-year relationship with Giggs. According to her statement, the former United ace "harassed, humiliated and abused" her.
Giggs is also accused of attacking his girlfriend's younger sister in his home. Andrea Griffiths, the sister of Giggs' ex-girlfriend, said that he "isolated" Kate from friends and colleagues, subjecting her to "humiliating treatment".The alleged treatment, which spans a "very long period of time," Griffiths said. The abuse culminated in a 'physical attack on Kate after a night out in early November last year, when police were finally called to Giggs' $ 2.4 million mansion. It was then that the public found out about his dark side. However, this was not his first scandal. His brother and father are no longer speaking to him. Just a few years ago, it was found out that his brother's wife was cheating on him with Gigs.
Last summer, an Everton football player whose name was not revealed was arrested on charges of paedophilia. The club confirmed that one first-team player was suspended due to a police investigation.
Many of the charges never ended up in court. A big scandal happened in 2006 when a girl accused Manchester United players of gang-raping her in a hotel. But, nothing but a media frenzy happened after that.
One of the worst cases was rape in the late 1990s.
Graham Ricks, an Arsenal legend and manager of numerous clubs, was convicted of raping a friend of his 15-year-old daughter.
A football coach who worked in lower-class clubs first got the 15-year-old drunk and then had sex with her several times.
Ricks was sentenced to only 12 months in prison in 1999 after admitting two charges of illegal sex with a 15-year-old girl and indecent assault on her. The former Arsenal captain has served only half of his sentence and spent 10 years on the list of sex offenders.
Many players like Wayne Rooney and Joe Cole have been part of sex scandals that ruined their marriages or ended in violence.
Rooney divorced his wife when it was revealed that he cheated on his better half with a 52-year-old woman. In 2006, after an orgy at a night party in Huddersfield, Cole was beaten by a man because of one of the three girls with whom Cole spent the evening. There was another version according to which he was beaten by West Ham fans who were angry because Cole left the club started playing for the rival club Chelsea.
The big problem lies in the fact that many sex scandals are never revealed and that clubs consciously ignore and cover up the problems until they come to light.
The message of one of the coaches of the Premier League teams speaks more than enough. It gives us the full picture, "I know what you're going to do, just make sure you don't get caught" he said to his players, during the first lockdown due to the spread of the coronavirus.
The British media is often full of stories about sex parties.
Of course, everything happens in well-hidden rooms, while clubs, even though they mostly know about these activities they usually turn a blind eye.
In some cases, the men might have been the victims too. As some allegations allegedly ended up not being true. One players' reputation was destroyed. Chad Evans was convicted of rape in April 2012 and spent two and a half years in prison. On April 21, 2016, the Appeal Court revoked his conviction and a retrial was ordered. On October 14, 2016, he was acquitted. Prior to the retrial, he joined Chesterfield.
After all this...we must say just one more thing-no wonder most women hate soccer.
