Apple TV Plus has officially ordered the SF series "Murderbot"!
The script for ten episodes of the series is already written!
Apple TV Plus has officially ordered the sci-fi series "Murderbot", an adaptation of the popular and award-winning literary series "The Murderbot Diaries" by Martha Wells. The script for ten episodes of the series has already been written, and production will start in three months. The directors, screenwriters, and executive producers are Chris and Paul Weitz (About a Boy, Mozart in the Jungle), while the main role will be played by Alexander Skarsgård (Big Little Lies, The Northman). Other executive producers include Skarsgård, Andrew Miano, David S. Goyer, and Keith Levin. Martha Wells is also involved in the project as a consulting producer.
The project marks the second collaboration between Apple TV+ and Goyer, who serves as showrunner and executive producer on the Apple Original “Foundation,” which recently aired its second season. It joins Apple’s slate of other sci-fi titles which includes “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters,” “Silo,” “For All Mankind,” “Invasion” and more.
Based on the award-winning books by Martha Wells, the series focuses on a self-hacking security android who is horrified by human emotions, yet drawn to his vulnerable "clients". Murderbot must hide his free will and complete a dangerous mission when all he really wants is to be left alone to watch futuristic soap operas and figure out his place in the universe.
The Martha Wells series started in 2017 with the novel "All Systems Red", and the last title of the series, for now, is "System Collapse", published in November of this year. The books of the series have won an enviable number of awards, of which we single out "Hugo" in the category for the best series of 2021.
No news yet on when the show will premiere on the streaming platform or who will be joining Skarsgård on the call sheet, but I am sure that you also can’t wait to get the first look imagery of The Northman actor wearing a mech suit.
