Asus RT-AXE7800: New router with 6 antennas
Asus unveiled the RT-AXE7800, a new router with an eye-catching design and preliminary essential facts, at the current Computex IT trade show.
Asus has previously introduced eye-catching routers such as the ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000 from the upper price class (with eight antennas) or the TUF Gaming AX5400, and the new RT-AXE7800 should join this list, but no price indication exists and many other data are still missing.
In any case, Techpowerup.com discovered the new model, and the look with the antennae folded in, which is suggestive of a Kaiser roll in the shape of a loaf, attracted the attention.
The Asus RT-AXE7800 is a tri-band WiFi 6E router with six antennas that can achieve wireless transmission speeds of up to 7,800 Mbit/s, as indicated by the model name.
Channels with a width of 160 MHz are supported, as is 1024 QAM functionality in the 6 GHz spectrum.
According to the first images, the connecting side has a single 2.5 Gbit/s port that may be used as a WAN or LAN port, and four Gigabit Ethernet connectors, one of which can be used as a WAN port or paired with a second-gigabit port (teaming).
As Techpowerup.com points out, teaming does not quadruple bandwidth for a single client, but rather requires many clients and a corresponding switch, NAS, or server that supports teams. On the back, there is also a single USB 3.0 port, as well as a power connector.
According to the article, the design with "foldable" antennas is expected for many additional models in the future, because consumer routers that handle WiFi channels in the 6 GHz band are not permitted to have removable antennas due to rules, which should not apply to incoming WiFi 7 routers.
Meanwhile, there is no word on when the Asus RT-AXE7800 will be available for purchase.
