Brad Pitt defends Ana de Armas

Brad Pitt is one of the six producers who worked on Andrew Dominik's movie "Blonde" about Marilyn Monroe, a Netflix production that is currently attracting a lot of attention from the world public.

The legendary Hollywood icon is portrayed by the Cuban actress Ana de Armas, who in the film looks strikingly like the famous Marilyn, but has become the target of criticism because of her Cuban accent.

"I think a violent Marilyn Monroe fantasy masquerading as a biography, or even if it was just a fantasy, is pretty awful," film critic Grace Randolph wrote on Twitter. Many users pointed out that the film is problematic because it is based on a novel that reimagines the actress' life, as opposed to a film based on a true biography.

"'Blonde' is heavily based on a fictional book about Marilyn Monroe that will give the public more lies about her. This is also not a biopic, the NC-17 rating is just what one wants, not what is needed. That's the way to sexualize her even more," said one Twitter user. "Let Hollywood tell us how horribly it treated this woman and how even decades after her death people are still profiting from her. But sure, Ana de Armas looks amazing as Marilyn Monroe and I'm sure she'll be nominated for awards, which is the whole point of this movie," reads one comment.

In a recent interview with ET, Pitt came to the defense of his co-star. “She is phenomenal in this role. It is "a heavy dress to fill". Only when we found Ana, we could cross the finish line” - said the actor.

Ana was an excellent choice because she was able to bring out the glamour, humanity, and vulnerability that Marilyn had” - Mark Rosen, president of entertainment at Authentic Brands Group (ABG), which owns the legacy of the famous actress, told Variety.

Ana de Armas spent nine months practicing Marilyn Monroe's accent, and she was helped by accent expert Jessica Drake, writes the Daily Mail.
