Camila Cabello revealed the reason for breaking off a two-year relationship with Shawn Mendes in an interview with New Music Daily Radio.
For the first time since Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes released a joint statement confirming the breakup in November, the singer spoke about why they broke off their two-year relationship in an interview with Zane Lowe for New Music Daily Radio.
She added the breakup to a change of priorities and that they both want to dedicate themselves to their careers. She started with her priorities that have changed. Camila said that her focus had changed throughout her life.
‘In the years we were in a relationship, I didn’t feel it while writing the album, and even now, I guess, my focus is always on how can I be a complete person? And apart from my career, my focus was not on my career either, 'she revealed.
‘This album was literally a tool to become a more comprehensive person and connect with my collaborators. That was my number one intention. I want to make the best album and the best music for me and my people. How can I easily make music with people I want to hang out with later? Talking about these things can help me build trust with people. But,how can I talk about ugly things that I haven't talked to anyone about? ' Camila added.
‘It’s the same thing with the years we’ve been together,’ she continued, talking about her relationship with Mendes. ‘In that time I just wanted to live a happy life and be in a healthy, happy relationship. I worked a lot on therapy. My focus has really changed. So even now I’m thinking if I’m not having fun, what’s the point? I think it is normal that as we get older, our priorities change. And I feel that was the case for both of them. Since we both started so young, we really learn how to be healthy adults. And that's fine.'
Recall, Shawn and Camila announced on Instagram that they have broken off a love affair, and in a statement they posted, they said: ‘We have decided to end our romantic relationship, but our love for each other as people is not over. We started our relationship as best friends and we will continue to be best friends. '
