Celebrities on 'Pandora Papers': Shakira and Claudia Schiffer had offshore accounts
Offshore bank accounts are often used to secretly transfer huge sums of money, but also to conceal real assets.
One of the biggest leaks of financial documents ever, called Pandora Papers, revealed the financial secrets of 35 current and former world leaders, more than 330 officials in more than 90 countries, and among them were some famous stars.
Among them are Colombian singer Shakira, German model Claudia Schiffer and Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar.
Pandora's documents thus reveal that pop singer Shakira founded an offshore company in the Virgin Islands to cover up her assets. Shakira is already in legal trouble with the Spanish government after the Barcelona state's attorney's office accused her of failing to pay a total of 14.5m euros in taxes in Spain between 2012 and 2014.
The lawyers of the German model Claudia Schiffer also came forward, stating that the supermodel pays taxes in the UK where she currently lives.
Bank accounts in offshore locations are often used to secretly transfer huge sums of money, but also to conceal real assets. Among the 'big fish' were Russian President Vladimir Putin, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis, and many others.
