Charles will live in an ‘apartment above the shop’ when he becomes king
The main question is, when the queen is no more, how to efficiently distribute two generations of families on such a huge number of properties, claims a source well versed in the court's plans
When Prince Charles (72) becomes king, his part of the magnificent Buckingham Palace building will be much smaller than the one that currently belongs to the queen, reports the Daily Mail.
Buckingham Palace is currently being renovated, after which the official residence of the royal family in London will be more accessible to the public. Thus, all those interested will be able to visit the palace throughout the year, which will turn Charles' part into something more than an 'apartment above the shop'.
Of the other changes, it is planned to turn Balmoral Castle into a museum in honor of the Queen and move the Duke and Duchess from Cambridge to Windsor Castle. Charles doesn’t want that residence for himself because it’s below Heathrow Airport so it’s too noisy for him.
The prince plans to reduce the monarchy as soon as he gets power in his hands. He had already set out to meet with advisers to discuss what would happen to the castles when only he, Camilla, 74, and William's family remained of the royal family.
