Cyberpunk: Edgerunners', new Netflix anime series based on 'Cyberpunk 2077'
Did you get a chance to play Cyberpunk 2077? Do you fancy me? Do not respond, for the fact is that it doesn't matter because Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is a new Netflix anime series based on the universe of the CD Projekt Red game, which bears no aesthetic resemblance beyond the corseting of the cyberpunk aesthetic itself.
The point is that, following The Witcher, Netflix has set its sights on another product from the Polish developer, and they are already well on track to release it next September, to welcome the new academic year with a lot of technology... and extreme violence in an anime that is quite reminiscent of some classics of the genre.
Yes, you read that correctly: Netflix adapted The Witcher novels, but they would never have done so if the game hadn't been such a smash phenomenon. Something similar occurred in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners in reference to Cyberpunk 2077, whose success may appear relative given all of the criticism it caused owing to its horrible optimization.
It's difficult to say anything without first viewing it. Overall, Netflix has progressed three films of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners in which some of the work's artistic pillars, such as the aforementioned violent tone or the anime aesthetic, are taught, however, the painting falls a little short in my opinion. And that the animation is under the supervision of a Japanese company.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is co-produced by Netflix and CD Projekt Red, with animation done by Studio Trigger, who has previously worked on games such as Little Witch Academia. It's understandable given recent marvels such as Godzilla: Planet of Monsters, Pacific Rim: No Man's Land, and, ignoring the more Japanese approach, that virtue known as Arcane.
In any case, not everything has to be the same, and what will determine Cyberpunk: Edgerunners' success or failure is the series as a product. We'll find out in September. Meanwhile, here are three sneak peeks from the series: a short teaser, the trailer, and an introduction from the CD Projekt Red team.
