David Tennant's incredible life story!
The career and private life of David Tennant, who is celebrating his 51st birthday, was marked by the series ‘Doctor Who’.
David Tennant, who became famous for his role in the series ‘Doctor Who’, is celebrating his 51st birthday.
The actor's real name is David John McDonald. He was born in the Scottish town of Bathgate as one of three children of the Moderators of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, Alexander McDonald and Helen McLeod. Already at the age of three, he started telling his parents that he wanted to be an actor because he adored the cult series 'Doctor Who', which has been broadcast on the BBC since 1963 with occasional breaks.
They advised him of a more common occupation, but David did not give up. He watched every episode of the series and met actor Tom Baker, Dr. Who’s fourth incarnation at the book’s signing in Glasgow.
He starred in a series of school plays and he was spotted by the late actress Edith MacArthur when he was 10. Edith told his parents he believed he would be a successful theater actor. He then began attending the Royal Conservatory of Scotland which was once known as the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
As a 16-year-old, David auditioned for the Academy and became one of the youngest students, spending 17 to 20 years there. While building his career, he learned that there was another actor named David McDonald so he decided to change his name. He took the last name of the frontman of the band Pet Shop Boys, Neil Tennant to get the original stage name, and got his inspiration while he was reading Smash Hits magazine.
He played his first professional role in a film against cigarette consumption when he was 16, and then appeared in the series ‘Dramarama’. One of his most important engagements was initially in the British drama 'Jude' in 1996, but his career was changed by the role of the 10th incarnation of 'Doctor Who' in 2005.
David rarely talks about his private life. 'Relationships are difficult enough for people like this, and I don't like talking about them in public,' he once explained. Interestingly, the ‘Doctor Who’ series also marked his private life.
Namely, since 2011 he is married to actress Georgia Moffett (37) whose parents are actresses Sandra Dickinson and Peter Davison, the fifth incarnation of Doctor Who. David and Georgia met in 2008 during the filming of the episode ‘ Doctor Who’ in which she played the genetically modified daughter of the 10th incarnation of ‘Doctor Who’ he played.
They were married on December 10, 2011. Today they live in London and have three daughters and one son, and he has adopted her son Tya (20) from a previous relationship.
The couple once gave a rare joint interview. Georgia joked and called herself a spy. ‘I did my best to make the connection between us happen, didn’t I?’ She said in the podcast ‘That Gaby Roslin’. She added that she was persistent in knocking David off his feet and ‘chased’ him.
