Elon Musk|On Mars in the next decade!

Elon Musk's name appears in a 69-year-old space travel book.
In a 69-year-old book about colonizing Mars, the name 'Elon' appears.
Elon Musk, the tech billionaire, has promised to send people to Mars by 2024. Was his mission, however, foreseen almost seven decades ago?

A while ago Musk sent a cryptic tweet. He said: No escaping

A fan replied to that in a comment. He said that there was a novel by [Wernher] Von Braun's published in 1953 called "Mars Project". He added that the book mentioned a guy called Elon who would carry mankind to Mars. "Absolutely insane" he added.
Wernher von Braun, a rocket scientist and engineer, wrote "Mars Project: A Technical Tale." Von Braun was a Nazi rocket scientist, working for Nazi Germany's rocket development program at the time. After WWII, the US recruited Von Braun and over 1,600 other German engineers and scientists to work for a clandestine espionage program known as "Operation Paperclip."

After relocating to the United States, Von Braun got involved in a project that was supposed to develop tales that communicated complicated scientific principles to laypeople using a variety of media, including books, TV guest appearances, and toys. His book "Mars Project" was supposed to be a description of a Mars trip.

Toby Li, Elon's fan, was just slightly off:

In Von Braun's book, the top commander on Mars is referred to as the 'Elon,' not that his name is Elon. Another user, Pranay Pathol, used an English version of the book to explain the differences. He said that it was true. He added that that was the same book's English translation… But "Elon," isn't the name of a person, but rather the of a function, such as an elected meritocratic president.

Last month, Elon Musk said that his corporation, SpaceX, intends to take people to Mars within the next ten years.

Musk was interviewed on an edition of the Lex Fridman Podcast, where he discussed his company's plans to colonize Mars in detail.

When Fridman queried Musk about the project's schedule, the world's richest man said, "Best case is roughly five years, worst case is ten years."

Engineering the vehicle, Musk stated, emphasizing that "Starship is the most complex and advanced rocket that has ever been manufactured.  The SpaceX Starship is the company's most recent rocket model.
The core optimization of Starship and the main goal is lowering the cost per ton to orbit and ultimately cost per ton to Mars' surface, Musk said on the show.
