“It was very challenging for me to appear naked at 62,” said Emma Thompson, who in one scene of the film stands in front of a mirror and takes off all her clothes. "I don't think I could have done it before. On the other hand, the age I'm in now makes that move extremely challenging because we're not used to seeing a raw body on film, a body that hasn't been computer-processed."

The plot of the film is as follows: retired Nancy (Emma Thompson) has hired a sex worker named Leo Grande (Daryl McCormack) to fulfill wishes she has so far failed to fulfill. The film is about a woman who lives her whole life according to socially acceptable norms and rules, which ultimately conflicts with her true desires and impulses.
