Ethan Hawke - I don't have much left in my career

Fifty-one-year-old Ethan Hawke, in a big and never more honest interview that he gave to IndieWire, revealed that he still has a few acting days left and that he wants to make the most of them for the best possible roles. A famous Hollywood actor, known for many films, does not want to play until his last breath.

He was celebrated by "Dead Poets Society" (then he was 18 years old), "Reality Bites" he recorded at 24, and "Before Sunrise" at twenty-five. 18 years later, he played and was the screenwriter of two sequels to that cult film - "Before Sunset" and "Before Midnight".

He also became a director. In 2001, he filmed "Chelsea Walls", then became a showrunner in the series "The Good Lord Bird", and as a director of a documentary series for the streaming platform HBO Max. It is about the production of "The Last Movie Stars", about the lives and careers of Paul Newman and Joan Woodward.

I definitely made a change from playing young characters as an older actor to playing old men as a relatively young actor. But it is the beginning” - said Hawke. Ethan credits the role of John Brown in ‘The Good Lord Bird’ as the start of his career as an older actor.

It's my last act. But, just the beginning of the last act. I found myself thinking about the roles I should play and not accept because I don't have much left in my career. I have this feeling about the passage of time, I am aware of it. When I was younger, I thought - I'll do this, I'll do that, I could shoot this. It's good to gain experience, to try something different, thinking that I have all the time in the world” - said the actor and added:

Now I'm thinking - I did this and that, and I didn't learn anything from it or - I should have done this much better, or it would have been better if I spent three months with my family instead of filming it. I am much more critical of myself” - the actor admitted.
