Fatigue and exhaustion-signs of mild depression

Difficulties in performing daily tasks, loss of the ability to rejoice, decreased interest in people, activities you once loved, bad mood, but also tension, and irritability are just some of the symptoms of depression.

The current pandemic brings us a hitherto unknown demand for adaptation and change in all segments of life. Isolation, quarantine, fear and uncertainty, restrictions on movement and socializing, are a shock to human nature. Such changes have a psychological experience of great loss and can be triggers for a depressive reaction.

"As much as the symptoms of depression seem familiar to us, research shows that this problem is still insufficiently recognized and treated. Maybe because depression has many faces and because two different people can suffer from depression and have a completely different clinical picture. Depression always disrupts emotions, thinking, will, and instincts. One of the basic diagnostic criteria for detecting depression is when someone has difficulty performing daily tasks for at least 2 weeks, loses interest in people and activities that were once pleasurable. He is in a bad mood, he feels tired and has reduced energy"  says the psychiatrist.

Depression is twice as common in women as in men. Young people between the ages of 20 and 40 are increasingly at risk of developing depressive symptoms, and people of lower socioeconomic status are especially at risk too.

Mild depression has become very widespread over the years, it is often unrecognized by doctors, and misunderstood by the environment.

The dominant symptom that people complain of in mild depression is the experience of exhaustion and fatigue that they can not overcome. Such people are usually in a bad mood during the morning and have difficulty coping with the day ahead. They perform their tasks, fulfill plans, participate even in family roles, take care of children, partners, but as long as they do that they do not feel satisfied and feel guilty that they need a lot of effort to do so.

Symptoms of mild depression can be hidden under physical difficulties such as headaches, stomach pain, back pain, etc. These are the so-called masked depressions that are very difficult to detect, because the symptoms are attributed to some disease, and in fact, it is a depressive reaction.

If we do not take care of our mental health in time, depression can get worse and take a chronic course.

Whether someone will develop depression or not, depends on a number of factors - genetics, personality structure. Withdrawn and hypersensitive people are at higher risk of depression. The development of depression depends on the experience in early childhood and great losses during life. For example the loss of a parent before the age of 11 or psycho-social stresses such as a pandemic that put the entire planet at risk of depression. Also, the problem in marriage is one of the important risk factors for depression with a difference in sex, because unmarried women are less likely to develop the depressive disorder than married women, while unmarried men are more likely to suffer from depression than married men. It often happens that people around you notice something happening to others.

The hormones serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine are responsible for normal mental functioning and maintaining a good mood. These hormones are produced in the brain in normal processes. Everyday situations such as an accelerated lifestyle, experiencing stress, struggle for existence combined with sensitive nature, or being burdened with genetics can be a trigger for reduced synthesis of these important hormones. It has been proven that in many mental illnesses, especially depression, there are lower levels of these hormones, but also S adenosyl L methionine (SAMe), an important substance that is naturally produced in our body. SAMe helps produce serotonin and other mood-regulating hormones and naturally restores "happiness hormones " to balance and affect mood.
