First images of the Motorola Razr 2022
It is impossible to discuss the Motorola Razr 2022 without briefly recalling the mythical and iconic Motorola Razr V3, a phone with which the brand raised the clamshell design to the top, which debuted on the market in Motorola's hand with the also mythical StarTAC from 1996, which became the company's biggest sales success, with just over 150 million units sold. It had some restrictions and was fairly frail, but it was still a mobile that captured my heart at first sight.
With the acquisition of Motorola by Lenovo, the brand began a remarkable rebirth, first filling its catalog with a plethora of proposals for the entry-level range, and then keeping the focus on it, but also pointing to the mid-range and premium segments of the market, a movement that was especially materialized with the launch of the Motorola Razr 5G, a high-end foldable that recovered the design of the Motorola Razr V3.
Despite the fact that Motorola generally refreshes a substantial portion of its portfolio, there was no new edition of the Motorola Razr new-gen in 2021. However, according to 91Mobiles, Lenovo is working on a new version of the Motorola Razr that will be available in the summer of 2022. And, according to the leak, we can notice its qualitative leap in its technical parameters in addition to photographs.
The 2020 Motorola Razr had a flaw in that, despite being in the premium range, some of its components were not the greatest option for that market. The most obvious example is its SoC, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710, at a period when the premium alternative was the Snapdragon 865. True, Motorola appeared to have focused on price containment, which is fair, but this detracted a little from the end outcome on a technical level. It had six gigabytes of RAM and 128 GB of storage.
That does not appear to be the case this time, as Lenovo appears to be going all out. Thus, the Motorola Razr 2022 will include a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, 8 or 12 gigabytes of RAM, and storage options of 256 and 512 gigabytes, according to the source. A significant jump that would put it in a position to compete in performance with a large portion of the high range.
In terms of style, Lenovo appears to have set its eyes on its primary market rival, the Samsung Galaxy Flip, as leaked photographs reveal that the Motorola Razr 2022 will have a more square appearance than its predecessor and will be more comparable to the Samsung model. There is no information on the size of the screens, but the one inside, when unfolded, will offer FullHD + resolution.
Of course, there is no official data on its calendar, but the leak suggests that it would debut in the Chinese market in late July or early August, and then expand to other markets a little later, but still within the summer.
