Genesis RX85 RGB: High-End Versatility

The Genesis RX85 RGB is a keyboard designed to make the life of a gamer easier, pitching itself as a top peripheral to complement your PC. A high-profile mechanical keyboard with an intriguing design and lights that joins the ever-expanding family of Genesis keyboards, launching its own series, the RX.

We had the opportunity to test the Genesis Thor 400 RGB from the already extensive Thor line, a versatile keyboard that, although being explicitly targeted to gaming, flawlessly fulfilled its duty if we decided to work with it. Now it's the turn of the Genesis RX85 RGB, the RX series' sole member for the time being.

This keyboard, with an aluminum chassis and red accents on the upper and lower ends, offers us a sense of quality and is high-end from the first time we use it.

In addition to the numerical keyboard found in this type of extended or "full-size" keyboard, the Genesis RX85 RGB has a wheel in the upper right corner to control the volume of the sound, as well as two buttons: one to deactivate the Windows key and another to play with the lights and alternate between the different lighting modes offered by the keyboard.

Finally, there are a total of 12 function keys at the top, which are dedicated to multimedia and typical system applications, such as the calculator or the search engine.

In terms of key design, the Genesis RX85 RGB employs Kailh Brown switches, which ensure a sensitive trigger point while also being free of the characteristic "click" sound when pressed. As a result, it is less noisy than other comparable keyboards on the market.

In addition, the keyboard has a lock button for the Windows key (placed at the top and labeled "G" for gaming), which can be quite useful to avoid accidental exits to the desktop at inconvenient times.

Kailh RED switches include a 2mm actuation point, a 55g actuation force, a 1ms response time, and a guaranteed minimum life of 50 million keystrokes for each pushbutton. The software provides separate and configurable RGB LED backlighting for each of the keys, which, because they are housed in a transparent component, intensifies the color and brightness significantly.

RGB lighting features a PRISM effect and 20 lighting modes, including 8 presets, up to ten devoted to gaming, and two custom options. It also has N-key Rollover, which prevents ghosting on all keys and makes this keyboard a surefire weapon.

We downloaded and installed the dedicated software from the official Genesis website to modify the Genesis RX85 RGB and discover what it might really offer us. The keyboard starts up quickly and easily since as soon as we connect it via USB, the equipment recognizes it and we can use it.

If we wish to customize the lights, we can save up to three distinct lighting profiles in the software, selecting effects, brightness levels, and even the direction in which we want the light to move. Even if we wish, we can turn off the keyboard light, with the exception of the volume wheel, which cannot be turned off.

We can also set up macros, which will come in handy during gaming sessions. Finally, the program lets you choose the device's polling frequency, which ranges from 100Hz to 1000Hz.

The Genesis RX85 RGB also considers ergonomics, as it includes a removable palm rest with a soft feel that is magnetically attached to the keyboard, tabs on the back to raise the height of the keyboard, and rubber feet to ensure a stronghold on the desk.

The Genesis RX85 RGB is a high-profile mechanical keyboard designed specifically for gaming, both in terms of specifications and software, but it serves its purpose when we want to work with it. As a result, we have a device that is extremely versatile, with high-quality finishes, ergonomic elements, and customization choices that will fit the needs of a wide spectrum of users.
