How many times a week should I wash my hair?
How many times a week should I wash my hair? The hairdresser has the answer to the question that plagues all WOMEN
If you wash your hair too often, it will become frizzy, dry and there is little you can do to "calm" it.
Hairdresser Barney Martin reveals how often you should wash your hair in relation to your skin type and hair and explains why no one should wash their hair every day.
Greasy hair
If you have oily skin, Barney recommends washing your hair every other day, and on days when you don't wash it, simply wash it with water, dry it and apply a shampoo for dry hair washing. Washing your hair every day will wash out the natural oils which hydrate the scalp and the hair, which is not a good solution.
Thick, curly hair
If your hair is thick, curly, or wavy, you should wash it every three days. The hairdresser warns that this kind of hair dehydrates with daily washing.
Instead, he suggests shampooing it every third day and using a conditioner to prevent it from becoming dry.
Thin and dry hair
If you do not wash thin hair often enough, it will become sticky. Again, in this case, it is OK to wash it every other day.
On those days "in between", when you don't wash it, the hairdresser advises you to just wash it with water, in order to get rid of excess oil - so, without shampoo.
If you train
Even if you exercise, it is not wise to wash your hair every day, but every other day. On "in between" days, regardless of whether you train that day or not, it is recommended to just wash your hair with water and apply a little dry shampoo after drying.
The only exception are swimmers because hairdresser Barney says that it is very important to wash the chlorine from your hair as soon as possible after swimming. He advises them to use some of the shampoos for easier hair combing, and be sure to use a hair mask.
