How to choose a perfect dog?

Do you want a perfect dog? We all do. There are over 400 breeds of dogs and all the mixes in between. So, how to choose the perfect one?

1. How active are you?

Do you jog, hike, and spend a lot of time being active? Or are you happier at home in your favourite cosy spot with a book? We are all different, so you should choose a dog that suits your activity level. Some dogs are more energetic than others, so, if you are not an active person you should definitely not get a Malinois puppy. They are very active dogs and they will be happier with someone who exercises a lot. And, we mean A LOT. If you need a couch potato, a bulldog might be the perfect dog for you, especially if you are not a summer person and you like to chill in a cool place when other people might prefer to be at the beach.

2. How tidy are you?

If you are a person who loves everything to be perfectly tidy it might not be a good idea for you to get a Husky. They are amazing dogs, but they do shed a lot. Their undercoat is fluffy and it needs regular brushing, and even if you are very diligent about it, their fur will be everywhere. If you want a dog with the type of fur that will stay on the dog or on its brush it might be best for you to get a poodle or a schnauzer. They do come in more than one size, and they will be perfectly neat if you groom them regularly.

3. How much space do you have?

Big dogs can be happy in an apartment, but, they do need regular exercise and lots of it. If you live in a small space then it is best to pick a small or medium-sized dog. That also goes for your walks. There is a simple rule: The bigger the dog, the longer the walk. So if you plan on going for long hiking trips and covering some serious distance, it would not be the best choice for you to get a toy poodle or a chihuahua.

4. Why do you want a dog?

This is a very important thing. If you want a companion to cuddle and play with there is no need to get a large dog that will eat more than you do. However, if you feel unsafe or you live in an area that needs a bit of extra protection then you can consider having a dog that will be your best buddy, your alarm system and your bodyguard.

Now it should be easier for you to pick your best friend. There is just one more thing to mention, all of the breeds mentioned here are used as examples so there is no need to exclude mix-breed dogs as they are a perfect choice for many people, every single one of them is unique just like us and every single one deserves a perfect and loving home. You can always adopt your best friend!
