How to regain self-confidence

Self-confidence is confidence in your skills, choices, and values. It comes from within ourselves and feels like an inner realization of our strengths and weaknesses.'Self-confidence comes from information and ideas that we bring through the world and that support a positive perspective about ourselves' says a psychotherapist.

Although we begin to live with a strong sense of self-confidence, it diminishes in many people during their lifetime. Low self-esteem can make you feel like you can’t stand other people’s criticism or have difficulty with confidence in yourself and others. Still, the good news is that self-confidence can be improved, and here’s how you can do it:

1. Understand where your lack of self-confidence comes from

Finding the cause of low self-esteem can help build more positive self-esteem. To understand the cause, to begin with, it is good to keep a diary. If this does not help, you can always consult a therapist.

2. Understand what self-confidence means to you

Take some time to understand what a sense of confidence is in your body. It is good to ask the question 'How do I know that I have reached a satisfactory level of self-confidence?' You may start talking more at work. Maybe you will finally wear the clothes you have always wanted.

3. Align with yourself

The more decisions you make according to your true self and your desires, the more confident you will become in making decisions.

4. Start with small steps

Most don’t like to experience a lot of changes at once. It is very important for self-improvement work to start with small steps. Shirin Eskandani, a life coach, says one way to build self-confidence is to make small promises to yourself and then fulfill them.

5. Think about the progress

This way of thinking encourages you to explore beyond your current skills and knowledge, and the possibility of improvement will always be open. Instead of using phrases like ‘I’m not sure’, just add the word ‘yet’, which turns this belief into ‘not sure yet’.

6. Sometimes you fail and that’s okay

Understanding that failure is happening and that it is a part of life will help you live more fully.

7. Oppose your inner critic

Often the voice in our head that tells us we are not good enough is not our authentic voice, but the sum of all the voices of those who have criticized us in the past. Opposing old criticisms can open up a new level of self-confidence.
