Johnny Depp was allowed by the court to continue the lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber!
Johnny Depp is accused of domestic abuse, and it affected his career.
Johnny Depp has won the right to continue with a defamation lawsuit worth $ 50,000 against his ex-wife Amber Heard, who sued him for physical violence, Variety writes.
In 2018, Amber wrote for the Washington Post that she had experienced domestic abuse. She did not name Depp but previously accused him of domestic violence after the 2016 divorce.
Two years later, the British tabloid The Sun published an article stating that Depp had beaten a woman. In November 2020, Depp lost a lawsuit against the tabloids.
The media write that Heard, therefore, demanded that the actor's lawsuit against her be dismissed, given that both lawsuits include accusations that he is an abuser. However, a court in Virginia ruled that the cases and statements were inherently different.
The judge also noted large differences between the defamation laws in the U.S. and the UK and felt that enforcing British verdicts in a U.S. court would create a “frightening effect” and could set a “dangerous precedent”. He also described Amber's arguments as "particularly enigmatic and meaningless".
By the way, Depp recently gave his first interview after the accusations of his ex-wife. He then said that Hollywood was boycotting him because of his fight in court with Amber and because of an article published by The Sun.
