Kim Kardashian saved an Afghan soccer team
She financed the plane with which the athletes and their families arrived in London. Their houses were burned. Some of their family members were killed
The non-profit American association Tzedek in cooperation with the British football club and reality star Kim Kardashian (41) helped the members of the women's Afghan football team to travel to Great Britain, reports AP. Moshe Margaretten, the founder of Tzedek, has previously collaborated with reality star Kim Kardashian on U.S. criminal justice reform. Kim and her brand SKIMs funded a plane that took members and their families to London.
“Just an hour after our Zoom call, I received an SMS saying Kim wanted to fund that flight,” Margaretten revealed.
The plane transported more than 30 teenagers and their families. Since Kabul fell to the Taliban in August this year, Britain and other countries have urgently evacuated thousands of Afghans. The Taliban government is particularly restricting women's education and freedom, and hundreds of female athletes have fled the country for fear of safety.
- Many of these families left their homes when the Taliban took power. Their houses were burned. Some of their family members were killed or taken away by the Taliban. So, the danger and the level of stress were very high and that is why it was very important for them to leave Afghanistan - said Khalida Popal, former captain of the Afghan women's national team who led the evacuation of the athletes.
