Lack of sleep can affect how we walk and move

Lack of sleep can affect our mood, behavior and be associated with a variety of health problems, and recent research has also shown that lack of sleep also affects how we walk.

While scientists previously thought that walking was a fully automated process, new findings show that this is simply not the case and that we can be insecure on our feet if we have not slept well.

Lack of sleep can affect someone’s walking pattern. Specifically, an individual’s ability to walk with purpose, avoid obstacles and maintain balance.

The study was researched by students at the University of São Paulo, who slept an average of about six hours a night. The next day they were asked to pass a test on the treadmill. Those students who were deprived of sleep were out of rhythm, missed sound signals, and generally had poorer scores.

This research gave experts the reason for additional research on this topic.
