Microsoft: New chip for Xbox Series X

It has been less than a year and a half since the arrival of the Xbox Series X on the market, and although it has been a very difficult period, due to the massive shortage felt by the market, the time has come to start thinking about the first evolution of itself, either as a "minor" update where the version is maintained but some improvements are made, or with the mid-generation replacement, which should be produced either by the end of this year or, more likely, by the end of next year.

Yes, there is still a long way to go, but we must keep in mind that these types of advancements and adjustments do not happen overnight. They can take a long time, especially if they include redesigning the most intricate components. And, of course, when we discuss its APU, it is evident that we are dealing with a very, very sophisticated component. So much so that, if a relay on Xbox Series X is expected next year, Microsoft must already be working on it.

That is exactly what we can read in VGC, which cites sources that Microsoft is already testing a new APU for the Xbox Series X. It is unclear from the material provided what the modifications being examined are, although they do show that they are aimed at enhancing their performance as well as their efficiency (nothing that really surprises us much).

It is also unclear what stage of development this upgraded APU for Xbox Series X is in, which, along with the fact that we do not know the impacts of claimed performance gains, makes us doubt whether this new chip will be the replacement for the present APU. In the current form, or, on the contrary, we are witnessing the first indication of what should be its change, which would signal the midpoint of this generXation's life cycle.

Regardless, even while both Microsoft and Sony have expressed satisfaction with this new generation, the truth is that both may be improved, as we have already stated. The Xbox Series X Elite and PlayStation 5 Pro may provide some performance improvements, but they do not address all of the issues that we previously discussed.
