Monica Lewinsky says apologies to Britney Spears regarding the conservatorship and public scrutiny were "long overdue"

Monica Lewinsky said that she was glad that celebrities apologized to Britney Spears, even if the apologies were "long overdue".

The New York Times documentary Framing Britney Spears, released in February this year, sparked a wide-ranging debate about how the media, Britney’s former emotional partners, and fans mistreated the pop princess.

Asked about the similarities between the ways in which Lewinsky and Spears had been exposed to public ridicule over the years, Lewinsky said: "I made a mistake. Britney didn't. There were other young women this happened to, and there's an enormous amount of collateral damage. So I think it's not just an apology to a person; it's an apology to how you've affected a culture. What is sexual agency? What does it mean?"

Levinski, apologizing to Spears, added that "it is not surprising that this objectification of women is happening with the growth of the #MeToo movement."

They braid together in a way that makes sense,” she added.

However, she admitted that she did recognize that other women were belittled and disgraced in the influential media at the time.
