It is no secret that Tom Cruise's ex-wife, Nicole Kidman, left an indelible mark on his professional path. However, her contribution was not presented in the ten-minute film shown at the Cannes Film Festival as part of the "Top Gun" and "Mission Impossible" stars.
Many have condemned the move because the former couple made three films together in 12 years of marriage. The video shows the most interesting parts of Cruise's four-decade-long acting career, but, the absence of his ex-wife is shocking. The former couple starred in three blockbuster films between 1990 and 1999 - "Days of Thunder", "Far and Away" and "Eyes Wide Shut". Clips from all three productions are shown in this film, but they were carefully selected and "cut" so that Kidman's was not seen in any of them.
The mini video was shown before the screening of Cruise's latest film " Top Gun: Maverick ", which had a spectacular premiere on the famous Croisette. Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise starred together for the first time in "Days of Thunder", a romantic action film set in the world of car racing. They got married in 1990 when Nicole was 23 years old. They shared the romance on and off the big screen while shooting this film, but only Tom behind the wheel of a race car can be seen in the video.
Scenes in which Kidman appears in the film "Far Away" have also been avoided, however, it is a real art as they succeeded to avoid her in Kubrick's anthological realization "Eyes Wide Shut". Namely, the cult collaboration of the famous couple in this film barely allowed a minute of material where Tom is alone in the scene. In the famous erotic drama from 1999, Kidman and Cruise played a married couple suffering from sexual problems.
However, skilled editors found a scene where Nicole was not there. The only scene shown in this film was Cruise taking off his mask. On the other hand, many of Tom's colleagues were featured in this video, including Dustin Hoffman, Kirsten Dunst, and Penelope Cruz.
Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman divorced in 2001 after 12 years of marriage amid rumors that his commitment to Scientology had created an insurmountable gap between them.
