Nintendo Switch has already outsold the Wii

Nintendo Switch is the Japanese company's greatest asset, and not for nothing; based on sales, it has amassed a gadget that, let's not forget, generates large profits from the day it debuted in stores, contrary to what happened with the competition's consoles of this and previous generations.

According to Nintendo's fiscal results presentation, as of March 31, 2022, the Nintendo Switch had already sold more than 107 million copies, surpassing the Wii as the brand's best-selling system.

And this is despite a significant reduction this year, owing, among other things, to supply chain issues and a component scarcity that has recently hit the entire sector.

In fact, the company has already predicted a 10% drop in Nintendo Switch sales as a result of the aforementioned setbacks, which are not the first time they have occurred.

A price hike for the console was even contemplated several years ago for the same reason. Overall, the Nintendo Switch can brag not only about producing profits for hardware sold from day one but also of maintaining its pricing virtually unchanged since then.

The Nintendo report also shows an interesting fact: the original edition accounts for 58.7 percent of console sales, compared to 25 percent for the OLED version, which was only registered in the last year, and the rest for the Nintendo Switch Lite. However, Nintendo has also set sales records for software, or games.

It is assumed that the Nintendo Switch has a catalog of close to 5,000 games, albeit some have not left their respective areas and those that have only reached a thousand in physical format. The remainder comprises digital formats and various types of extra content but does not include those accessible in bundles such as Nintendo Switch Online.

In any case, the known Nintendo Switch games are much fewer than usual, though they are more than ever: there are nearly forty that have sold more than a million units, and not only great successes, but recent releases such as Metroid Dread, Pokémon Legends, or Kirby and the Forgotten Land, with 2.9, 12.6, and 2.1 million units, respectively, are considered.

In conclusion, despite the setbacks, the Nintendo Switch is growing in popularity, and while it is still far from the 154 million units sold for the Nintendo DS or the 155 million for the PlayStation 2, it still has a long way to go while the bonanza and launches continue.

For the time being, it is projected to outsell the PlayStation 4, which sold about 117 million units this year.
