"Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" - the most expensive movie of all time
"Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" is the most expensive movie of all time, and it only got 33% on Rotten Tomatoes. What was wrong?
Sometimes it happens that films that are destined to be big hits completely fail, and the proof of this is the most expensive film of all time. The 2011 film "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" is the most expensive film that is ever made, with a budget of $379 million, but despite this, it has been called the worst sequel to the franchise.
Captain Jack Sparrow (Depp) meets a woman from his past (Cruise) and he's not sure if it's love or if she's just a ruthless trickster who's taking advantage of him to get information about the location of the Fountain of Youth. She soon persuades him to board the ship Queen Anne's Revenge, which is captained by the terrible Blackbeard (McShane), so Jack soon finds himself in an unexpected adventure in which he will not know who to fear more: the woman from the past or Blackbeard.
Where did it go wrong?
Even the synopsis sounded promising. Although the film was a hit in theaters and earned a billion dollars, most viewers did not have nice words about it. Something was missing.
Bad reviews
The film received a crushing 33% on Rotten Tomatoes and 54% from fans, and the fourth installment of the franchise was declared a complete disaster. "From the opening scene, it's clear that the magic that was present in the original is completely gone," wrote one viewer, while another added that this was "the worst of all the sequels." "Sparrow is such a beloved character that the idea of giving him more screen time seemed like a good thing, but that wasn't the case," wrote a third, while someone added that the film was "one long walk through the jungle."
Sometimes expectations and reality are two different stories and money is not a guarantee for success!
