Princess Diana's famous Met Gala dress!

Many names that marked world pop culture walked the red carpet of the Met Gala, so the ultimate icon of the 1990s - the wonderful Lady Di - had to be found among them.

Just three months after her divorce from Prince Charles, Princess Diana was among the guests of the Met Gala, a prestigious event at New York's Metropolitan Museum, back in 1996.

It was the first and last time that the former Princess of Wales found herself at the Met Gala, and this was for Diana to do what was unthinkable for her and the woman in her position only a few years earlier: she appeared in a dress that exudes sex appeal.

Since her son William was a sensitive fourteen-year-old at the time and their relationship was shaken after all the scandals that Charles and Diana prepared, the princess was very careful when choosing a dress. Royal biographer Katie Nicholl, who wrote the book "William and Harry", revealed that the princess was hesitant about the dress she chose for fear of embarrassing the young prince.

In the end, the choice fell on the slip dress with the signature of John Galliano and Dior - a navy blue satin creation that follows the body line, falls to the floor, and the upper part and the straps are made of black lace. She wore a slightly darker silk robe over it, as well as Lady Dior's navy handbag, which she inspired. She added her most famous piece of jewelry to everything: a choker made of several strings of pearls with a large sapphire in the middle.

Although this edition is even humble for today's standards of the red carpet of the Met Gala, it would still be considered very inappropriate for a member of the British royal family.

Lace, bare shoulders, an emphasis on the sensuality of Diana's figure, accentuated breasts... all of these are forbidden items when it comes to fashion for royal daughters-in-law - which Diana was no longer at the time.

Many call this creation the last message that Diana sent to people who have been teasing and belittling her for years, and it is so simple: "I am finally free."
