“There is a woman I am very much in love with, Leila George, whom I see only sometimes now because I fucked up my marriage. We were married for only a year, but I was a very careless guy for five years” - the actor started honestly.
Sean emphasized that he never cheated on his wife or did anything like that, but he "allowed himself to think that his work on so many different things is so important, and that includes indulging in total depression and escaping into alcohol and pills as early as 11 am, constantly watching the news, following the Trump era, watching and simply despairing."
The actor then praised his ex-wife and gave an insight into the problems that plagued him during their relationship.

I'm going to pass out for a couple of hours and get away from all this shit," Penn said openly.
The owner of two Oscars also says that he still feels the need for vodka and sleeping pills, but emphasizes that he no longer uses them. Let us remind you, that Sean and Leila started their relationship in 2016 and got married in 2020. They divorced about a year later, and last fall Leila filed for divorce.
Separation from Leila is the third time for Sean to go through a divorce. He was married to Madonna from 1985 to 1989, and to actress Robin Wright from 1996 to 2010.
