Soon on HBO: "True Detective: Night Country"

Officially titled “True Detective: Night Country,” the six-episode season will be released on January 14. This season stars Jodie Foster and Kali Reis. Issa López is the presenter, screenwriter and director of all episodes.

The official season description reads: “When a long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station disappear without a trace. To solve the case, detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) will have to face the darkness they carry inside and dig for the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice."

"Night Country" will thus take place at a research station in Alaska, a place where the night can last for days. This nighttime atmosphere should be radically different from the sunny environments of previous seasons. This renewed environment makes us even more eager to discover what the series has to offer.

In addition to Foster and Reis, the cast includes Fiona Shaw, Finn Bennett, Isabella Star Lablanc, Aka Niviâna, Anna Lambe and Joel D. Montgrand with Christopher Eccleston and John Hawkes.

In addition to starring, Foster is also an executive producer. Mari Jo Winkler is also an executive producer along with Barry Jenkins, Adele Romanski and Mark Ceryak for Pastel. This fourth season is written and directed by Issá Lopez (Tigers Are Not Afraid), with Alan Page Arriaga on the script. She will also executive produce alongside Barry Jenkins (Moonlight), as well as the stars of the first season, McConaughey and Harrelson, who return as executive producers. The original creator of True Detective, Nic Pizzolatto, has been removed and is no longer directly involved in the creation of this sequel.

Recall, that "True Detective" began in 2014 with McConaughey and Harrelson playing cops in Louisiana. The following year, Colin Farrell, Rachel  McAdams, Taylor Kitsch, Kelly Reilly and Vince Vaughn moved the series to California. Mahershala Ali starred as Arkansas detective Wayne Hays in the third season, which premiered in 2019.
