Sore Throat: Seven Natural Ways to Soothe Your Throat Overnight

Sore throat is a common occurrence on cold days. It is most often caused by a cold, excessive strain on the vocal cords, or dry air to which we are exposed in winter due to heating. Instead of artificial preparations and medicines, we bring you several natural methods with which you can eliminate this unpleasant pain in a healthy and easy way.

1. Cayenne Pepper Tea
Add lemon tea, mint tea, the juice of one lemon, a teaspoon of honey, and a little cayenne pepper powder (the tip of a knife) to a pot of water. Stir everything well and remove from the heat before boiling. Drink while it is still hot.

2. Grandma's recipe for sore throat
Add two teaspoons of honey to 250 ml of water and heat well (make sure it doesn't boil). Remove from the heat and squeeze about two teaspoons of fresh lemon juice. You can also add a teaspoon of brown sugar for a stronger taste.

3. Milk drink with cinnamon

Mix a tablespoon of sugar, two pinches of baking soda, and half a teaspoon of cinnamon. Add 250 ml of milk and stir well. Put on low heat and stir. Remove from the heat before the milk boils and add a tablespoon of honey. Serve while hot.

4. Herbal tea with brandy
Mix green tea, chamomile, and lemon tea, and you will get a healthy drink full of antioxidants. If you add a teaspoon of honey, lemon juice, ginger, and a little brandy to it, you will feel as if you have taken a natural analgesic.

5. Gargling
Make saline from 250 ml of water and a teaspoon of salt. Put the mixture on the stove and bring it to a boil. Take a larger sip of the liquid, tilt your head back, and gargle. Do not swallow the liquid, but spit it out after ten seconds.

Repeat this at least five times a day until the symptoms of a sore throat disappear. Gargling with saline will reduce the symptoms of a sore throat and help flush the virus out of the body.

6. Inhalation
Boil three cups of warm water and dip a tea bag of lemon, chamomile, and a little fresh ginger. Leave for five minutes to cool. Test the steam with your hand so that it is not too hot and pour the liquid into a larger bowl or container for inhalation.

Take a clean towel and roll it over your head. Lean, covered with a towel, over the bowl, and inhale the steam through your mouth and nose for five to ten minutes. The sore throat will be alleviated, which will make it easier for you to fall asleep.

7. Warm compress
Make a tea from dried chamomile flowers and dip a clean towel in it while it is still hot. When the tea has cooled a bit, squeeze the towel well, roll it lengthwise and wrap it around your neck. When the wrap has cooled, reheat the tea and repeat the process.

If the sore throat lasts for several days or is accompanied by other symptoms, be sure to contact your family doctor.
