The first gay kiss in the history of movie!

She smelled a flower, smiled, and changed the course of film history.

German-American actress and singer Marlene Dietrich was special and the first in many ways, and it is little known that she was the first artist who dared to kiss a person of the same sex in one film. It is a scene from the 1930 film "Morocco", directed by Joseph von Sternberg.

During the Great Depression, American cinema audiences lost some interest in the world of film, which is why filmmakers began working on shocking themes and scenes and bringing Americans back to theaters. This required addressing controversial and provocative topics, such as violence and prostitution, but someone also came up with one neglected aspect of life: LGBT topics.

Marlene Dietrich did not hide the fact that she was bisexual and had several fiery relationships in Hollywood, so Von Sternberg in the films "Morocco" and "Blue Angel" gave her the role of cabaret actors who flirt, as it was written, "with men, with women and troubles ".

However, Marlene, in front of the camera, usually did not exchange too much tenderness with members of her gender, so everything was shocking when in the first-mentioned performance, the actress in the role of Mademoiselle Amy Jolly kissed the lady in the audience, dressed in a men's tuxedo and with a hat, after flirting with her gaze as she smelled a flower. While this is not a real French kiss in the context of a gay love affair, it was definitely not a sign of a friendship as well.

Before Marlene, we had hints of lesbian relationships say in the 1929 film “Pandora's Box”, and the kiss of two soldiers on the cheek in the 1927 silent film “Wings”, but the moment of passion seen in “Morocco” is remembered by history as a gay kiss from which began with the portrayal of LGBT characters in Hollywood cinema. If we could think of one person who would be so brave to change the course of movie history, it would be Marlene, without a question!
