Netflix's new film 'Red Notice' has brought together the biggest acting stars, but critics are not sure that the film itself is so powerful
What was unthinkable until recently, watching the biggest acting stars in the latest high-budget film on television, is completely normal today, as it will be in a few days with the film ‘Red Notice’, starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot. Critics have already seen it and written their observations about the film made for the streaming platform
Ahead of its release on Netflix on November 12, ‘Red Notice’ will be shown in a limited number of cinemas this weekend, and some film critics have already shared their opinions. While they mostly agree that the action-adventure brought together a great stellar team, they’re not sure how well they’ve been used in this film.
Sean O'Connell from CinemaBlend thinks the film is actually very good. In his four-star review, he says that with a number of films trying to be what ‘Red Notice’ is, and some of them even shot earlier by some of these actors, this is certainly the best film of its kind.
However, there are not many reviews that praise the film so unconditionally, and those who rate it positively gave that rating to the fun component of the film.
An Indiewire critic says that despite the expectation of a horrible film, based on some previous Netflix attempts, ‘Red Notice’ is not. One drop of inspiration somehow manages to run this film for almost a full two hours, writes Indiewire, and ‘Red Notice’ is a lot of fun, though often in spite of itself.
The IGN critic is of the opinion that ‘Red Notice’ borrows too much from other films and fails just when it borrows from much better films.
"The film starts with a lot of energy potential, but then turns into a mix of other, better films, with scenes that seem to be taken straight from countless films from 'Indiana Jones' to 'Dirty Rotten Scoundrels'" IGN reports
There’s no shortage of completely brutal reviews either, so Polygon rates the film as bad as blockbusters can be.
‘Along with a trio of alleged movie stars, who lack the brilliance and charisma of true headliners ,‘ Red Notice ’is another visually awful offer to build a franchise based on stunningly boring action sequences,’ writes Polygon.
