The hero of ‘Squid Game’ Oh Yeong-su: ‘It’s hard to be famous. I don't have a manager, my daughter helps me with calls and messages'

Netflix TV series "Squid Game" by South Korean director Hwang Dong-hyuk (50) about a survival game in which 456 contestants risk their lives to win a prize of $ 45.6 billion has conquered the world, and 77-year-old actor Oh Yeong-su is slowly getting used to the world fame, which, he admits, took him by surprise.

- The series has definitely changed my life - and drastically. So many people are trying to contact me that I had to ask my daughter to help me! Since I don’t have a manager, it’s hard for me to handle all that enormous amount of calls and messages I receive. I feel like I’m floating in the air so I say to myself, ‘You have to calm down and organize your thoughts’. I can't even go to a cafe unnoticed anymore, it's hard to be famous - the actor is honest.

After appearing in "Squid Game," he was also called to the South Korean reality show "How Do You Play?" (he was a guest in one episode), and they want him in a number of commercials, but so far he has turned them all down, including the one to star in a commercial for fried chicken.

Oh Yeong-su is an acting veteran in his homeland whose career spans nearly six decades.

- Unfortunately, our society often recognizes only the first place, as if everything else is not important ... People forget that the second place, although it lost from the first, actually beat the third place. So we are all winners. I think the real winner is the one who works hard and tries to be as good as possible. I personally have never aspired to great success and I am satisfied with what I have - says this modest 77-year-old.

- I have no great ambitions. Already got so much in life! Now I just want to leave behind a part of what I received. Simply put, let’s say you go to a mountain and see a flower. When you are young, you would pick that flower and take it just for yourself. But when you get to my age, you would leave it where you found it, and later come back to see it one more time. It's the same with life - things should be left exactly as they are. It is not always easy, but it is the only right way - concluded Oh Yeong-su.
