The new "Karate Kid" movie will reunite Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan!
The actors announced the news in the official Sony video in which they are looking for a new star – The Karate Kid!
Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan are gathered in a new video and they announced a global audition for the new "Karate Kid" movie! Namely, yesterday, Sony released a video featuring the two actors that brought two exclusive pieces of news: the first is that they will both be in the new "Karate Kid" movie, and the second is that any kid in the world who submits an audition video can become the Karate Kid (of course, there are certain conditions)!
Macchio and Chan starred in the "Karate Kid" films, just over two decades ago: the original 1984 "Karate Kid" film and its two sequels, and the 2010 "Karate Kid" remake, which also starred Jaden Smith. With this move, two icons of the "Karate Kid" films will unite in a new, but well-known, project.
Plot details are unknown, but it is known that Macchio will reprise his role as Daniel LaRusso, which he played in the original trilogy and in Netflix's "Cobra Kai" series, and that Chan will reprise his role as Mr. Han, a kung fu master modeled after Mr. Miyagi ( Pat Morita ) from the original story. He trained Smith's Dre Parker in the remake 13 years ago. The "Cobra Kai" series, which continued the story from the movies a few decades after them, reignited the rivalry between Daniel and Johnny Lawrence ( William Zabka ), so it is currently unknown how that story will fit into the new "Karate Kid " movie. We also expect the sixth and final season of the "Cobra Kai" series on Netflix by the end of the year.
The new Sony Pictures studio "Karate Kid" will be directed by Jonathan Entwistle and based on Rob Lieber's screenplay. We expect it to hit theaters on December 13, 2024. Those interested can view the application conditions and all other details at KarateKidCasting.com .
