The price of the Radeon RX 7900 XT and 7900 XTX may be higher than expected
AMD revealed the MSRP of the Radeon RX 7900 XT and 7900 XTX, $899 and $999, respectively, during the formal introduction event.
This was fantastic news because it meant that the Sunnyvale giant would remain in the same price range as the Radeon RX 6900 XT, breaking the tendency seen in the graphics business of increasing the price of sale with each successive generation.
Unfortunately, rumors are emerging that the Radeon RX 7900 XT and Radeon RX 7900 XTX will cost more than planned due to a substantial component scarcity that will linger for at least two or three weeks after the debut of both graphics cards.
The information makes sense, especially considering that this new generation of graphics cards requires a total of seven chips to construct its GPU, six of which house the unlimited cache and one of which houses the graphics core itself.
The price rise is expected to be between 20% and 30%, while some stores have already launched pre-purchases at extravagant prices much beyond those figures.
The situation should improve in January 2023, yet everything will ultimately depend on demand and market reality. It is simple to understand that if demand is high, the price of the Radeon RX 7900 XT and 7900 XTX will remain high even if the supply level increases, and if demand is low, the price should drop even if the stock level improves.
We must also consider that, while Ethereum's transition to a non-mining model has eliminated the problem of cryptocurrency mining, the truth is that we are still suffering the consequences of speculation and resale, which may affect the price of the Radeon RX 7900 XT and 7900 XTX, particularly if availability is limited and interest is high.
Overall, the prices you're seeing at certain retailers that already provide pre-orders are between $1,500 and $1,700, and they don't make sense, especially because they virtually match the GeForce RTX 4090, and the Radeon RX 7900 XTX is substantially slower in ray tracing.
We'd like to remind you that the new generation of AMD graphics will be released at the end of this month.
