The sequel to the "Dirty Dancing" is coming!

More than 30 years have passed since the first screening of the film "Dirty Dancing", and over time it has found its place among the cult achievements, which should not be missed. Therefore, if you belong to the younger generation and have not had the opportunity to watch this musical, we suggest you do so, and for readers who have, refresh your memory. The first associations that accompany the title itself are a great acting couple, then a soundtrack, and unsurpassed choreography.

"Nobody puts Baby in the Corner" is a cult sentence by the late Patrick Swayze, the big star of the most romantic film ever made. "Dirty Dancing" is now getting a sequel.

The lead actress of the original film, Jennifer Grey, will also have the role of executive producer in the film. Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer confirmed this big news back in 2020, but now, additional details have emerged, including information on when the film will hit theaters.

“Although the original Dirty Dancing has always been one of my favorite films, I had no idea I would direct a sequel", director Jonathan Levine said in a statement, adding: “Through co-authorship, I fell in love with characters (new and old) from 1990, New York and music, which will range from songs from the original film to hip-hop from the 90s.”

The director of the film said that he can't wait to work with Jennifer to bring this beautiful story of summer, romance, and dance closer to a generation of new fans. And for those longtime fans, he promises not to ruin their childhood.

"We will professionally tackle sophistication, ambition, and, above all, love in this film," Levine concluded. Although Grey will reprise her role as the inimitable Frances Baby Houseman, her beloved colleague Patrick Swayze died in 2009 of pancreatic cancer at the age of just 57.

However, Variety reported that the filmmakers are in talks with Swayze’s family to involve the actor in the film in some way, and for now we can only speculate on how this could be done.

The names of the new members of the cast have yet to be announced, but we believe it will be soon as the film begins filming towards the end of this year while its premiere is expected in 2024.
