TikTok, one of the most popular social networks today, reported that they have just crossed a billion users on a monthly basis. These are truly amazing results for the platform, which has only been available from August 2018, after which governments around the world tried to further regulate and marginalize it, mostly for security reasons because the Chinese company ByteDance is behind it all, writes Verge.
TikTok experienced its biggest jump in popularity at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, becoming the application that people downloaded the most in the first quarter of last year. Precisely, in that period it was downloaded an incredible 315 million times worldwide. ByteDance said their profits doubled last year from a year earlier, earning $ 34.3 trillion. ByteDance today, after recording an increase in the number of users, including earnings, is estimated at 425 billion dollars.
Others have tried to take advantage of TikTok's success, introducing features into their social networks and platforms that have made it so popular. So Youtube introduced the form of short videos in the form of its Shorts, Instagram in the form of Reels, and Snapchat introduced Spotlight, a direct TikTok clone, within its application. Regardless, writes Verge, TikTok continued to grow. As the media reported in early September this year, TikTok users spent on average more time watching short-format videos on that platform than the average Youtube users spend on Youtube.
