Val Kilmer begged to be in Top Gun sequel

Legendary actor Val Kilmer has revealed that he "begged" the producers of "Top Gun: Maverick" to play in the sequel using artificial intelligence technology, after undergoing a tracheotomy in 2014 after being diagnosed with throat cancer, reports the "Daily Mail".

He was diagnosed with this vicious disease in 2014, and after the intervention, he got a hoarse voice and shortness of breath, which made it completely difficult for him to communicate with others and made it impossible for him to practice acting.

The actor, who is 62 years old today, became famous in the original blockbuster from 1986 as Lieutenant Tom "Iceman" Kazansky. Val Kilmer's role in the cult film "Top Gun" became famous, but he later admitted that he thought the script was "silly" and that he was forced to accept a "silly" role because he was under Paramount's contract.  He really wanted to appear in the sequel, although everyone in Hollywood "wrote him off".

Tom was Maverick, but Maverick's enemy was Iceman. The two of them went together like salt and pepper” - said Kilmer. He managed to regain his voice thanks to the British agency for artificial intelligence "Sonantic", which managed to reconstruct the voice of the actor again.

I got throat cancer. After the treatment, my voice was taken away as I knew it. People around me are struggling to understand me as I speak, but despite everything, I still feel like the same person," Val said. Sonantic has used his voice recordings throughout his career to create a realistic but artificial model of his voice. Val Kilmer's career lasted almost 40 years.

I am grateful to the entire Sonantic team who masterfully restored my voice in a way I could not have imagined possible” - said this actor. He also added:

The chance to tell my story, with a voice that seems authentic and famous, is an incredibly special gift” - concluded Val Kilmer, who we will see in the sequel "Top Gun: Maverick" after 26 years. Kilmer is engaged in painting, and last year he returned to acting when he participated in a number of projects, including the sequel to Top Ghana together with Tom Cruise.
