What happened to Edward Furlong?
Furlong's upbringing did not promise a normal life.
In 1991, Edward Furlong was just a 12-year-old kid from Los Angeles on the verge of massive fame. The cult film "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" was about to be released in theaters. Many critics praised Furlong's surprisingly witty performance as John Connor, the ultimate leader of the human resistance against the Terminator. Like his character, Furlong was destined for greatness.
Furlong's upbringing did not promise a normal life. He didn't know his father. His mother eventually lost control of him, leading to Edward's aunt and uncle suing her for custody and raising him until his early teenage years.
Furlong was in a relationship with a 29-year-old woman who was his mentor on the set of Terminator 2: Judgment Day. He was 15 years old. She eventually became his manager, though she did little to direct his career in any meaningful way. Furlong starred in a number of critical and commercial failures, such as ‘Brainscan’, none of which came close to replicating the success of ‘Terminator 2: Judgment Day’.
Furlong eventually got engaged to his manager and later divorced her. In 1999, she sued him for money he owed her. She also claimed that she was physically abused. During all this time, Furlong allegedly took hard drugs - heroin, cocaine - and was in the depths of serious alcoholism.

He was married to actress Rachel Bella from 2006 to 2014, and they had a son, Ethan. She asked for a divorce, and although he continued to see his son, he had to do so under supervision because, after a random test, traces of drugs were found in the blood of the then little Ethan.
His addictions kept him from casting John Connor in the 2002 Terminator sequel, which left the role to Nick Stahl. He was arrested several times for domestic violence, drug addiction, and various driving violations. In court, he publicly admitted that he was completely broke. However, those who have worked with him still claim that he is a very talented actor - but unpredictable.
